Welcome, Dannch’e Dear Takhini school Community, I wish to welcome you to Takhini Elementary. Takhini is situated on the traditional territories of the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council and the Kwanlin Dün First Nation. We are a member school of the First Nation School Board (FNSB). This year, the First Nation School Board and Takhini have taken on an ambitious agenda. In addition to leading the Yukon in working from a Developmentally Responsive lens to create a safe, caring environment where children can maximize learning; the school has embarked on a new initiative to improve student-reading outcomes based on the “Science of Reading” research and programming.
These two intentional initiatives are part of our collective desire to see meaningful social emotional and academic skill development across the grades. These initiatives take a lot of work and ongoing skill development by our staff, who are truly dedicated to providing the tools for success for all learners.
As a FNSB school, we value and respect that learning takes many forms, and traditional ways of knowing, doing, and being are important aspects of our school community. We are continuing to develop our relationships with our Indigenous partners and provide ongoing opportunities for learning through land based and experiential learning.
The 2023/24 school year is a busy year with many traditional school structures being challenged to make way for true student success. I welcome you on this challenge and look forward to working with our entire community in the year to come.
